We love Dave Cornthwaites' style
We were introduced to his enormous Expedition1000 challenge recently and just had to support the guy. He is taking on twenty-five different journeys, each one a minimum of 1000 miles in distance and each using a different form of non-motorised transport.
A few years ago Dave was a self-confessed Playstation addict and an ”awful“ graphic designer. Then he left his job and started forging a new living as an adventurer, author and, later, a motivational speaker. We love his motto to Say Yes More and what’s more, Dave aims to raise a minimum of £1,000,000 for good causes, including the breast cancer awareness charity CoppaFeel!, which was founded by Dave’s friend Kris Hallenga when she was diagnosed with breast cancer at the age of 23.
Having already skateboarded across Australia, kayaked the length of the Murray River and ridden a tandem bicycle from Vancouver to Vegas, yesterday Dave began the 4th challenge of his Expedition1000 project, a source to sea attempt along the Mississippi River by Stand Up Paddleboard.
He started his journey in a small creek running into Elk Lake, Minnesota, 8 miles later passing through the Mississippi Headwaters at Lake Itasca. He expects the next three days to involve plenty of bushwhacking, climbing over falling trees and navigating through mazes of marsh and wild rice. He has already seen his first black bear and will be camping on the riverbank for the next three months!
